MEMBERSHIP FAQ

Visit UMECRA – Results – Rider Numbers and enter either your first or last name. Your current ride year membership payment date will be displayed, if one exists.

UMECRA ride year begins December 1st and continues through November 30th.  As such, memberships expire at the end of each ride year.  Additionally, membership in UMECRA is by the ride year and is not prorated.

It important to declare which ride year you intend to join when completing the membership forms.  This is especially true if joining late in the season while rides are still being held.

While a UMECRA membership is not required, any points earned or miles completed will not be accumulated for you or your horse and you will not be eligible for year end awards or mileage programs.  Membership offers many ways to earn points.

Similar to the above question, AERC membership is not required to enter a ride.  However, anyone who is not an AERC member who enters either LD or Endurance will incur a AERC Day Member fee of $20 for each LD or Endurance event entered.

AERC assigns members a member ID (new members have a “M” prefix followed by 5 digit number).  Horses are assigned an ID beginning with an “H” followed by a 5 digit number.

UMECRA assigns every member their own unique 4 digit membership number.  Horses who do not have an AERC Horse ID will be assigned a UMECRA Horse Number.  It is important for members to send the pointskeeper a request for a UMECRA Horse ID or provide the assigned AERC Horse ID.  UMECRA does not charge to assign Horse IDs.

All of these ID’s are necessary for points-keeping and lifetime mileage awards, especially when there are many horses with the same name competing.  It’s a good idea to keep a card with all of your ID’s handy for filling out forms online and at rides.

The UMECRA definition of a family as:

“Family memberships shall consist of one or more related, or coupled as significant other, adults and/or children of such adults who are less than 18 years of age, all of whom reside in the same household.”

Because your and your adult child are related, you are eligible for a family membership so long as you all reside in the same household.

UMECRA’s Minor Membership ($10) is for any rider under 18 as of December 1 of the ride year.  Junior status depends on the event entered. For reference, the UMECRA ride year begins December 1 and continues through November 30th.

  • For Endurance and Limited Distance events, a Junior is under 16 on December 1st of the ride season.  This is the same as the AERC definition of a Junior.
  • For Competitive Trail events, a junior is under 18 on December 1 of the ride season.

For example, if Susie is 15 on December 1, 2024, she will compete as a Junior in all LD and Endurance events, even if she turns 16 on December 2.  Her junior classification remains the same for the entire ride season.

The exceptions to this is if the junior has petitioned UMECRA to ride as an unsponsored minor.  In that case, the Junior competes as a Senior in his/her appropriate weight division.

In 2024, UMECRA passed a two week grace period for memberships.  Any rides completed within 2 weeks prior to the official membership date will be included for year end points standings.  No other exceptions will be granted.

Please email the UMECRA Treasurer to update member information.

You can simply mail the membership form with the additional fee due or pay online and select the upgrade membership option.  It is helpful to reach out to the UMECRA Treasurer to alert them to the change, but is not required.

If you only need to add or update names, just send an email.
